Active in the classical music, marching band, and brass band scenes since 2014, Matthew Cain makes music across New York City and the northeast. Primarily focused on brass band and pop music, Matthew is a high-energy performer and is comfortable on both tuba and sousaphone.
He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Yankee Stadium, Mysteryland USA in Bethel Woods, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New York Botanical Garden, The Bitter End, and many clubs and venues across the city.
He was the original tuba player with the Funkrust Brass Band, and has played with Gallant Entertainment, Inc's City Beats (the official band of the New York City Football Club) for four seasons. He's played with the Hungry March Band, the Greenwich Village Orchestra, and with the West Coast Big Band in Galway, Ireland. He's shared the stage with jazz legend Rufus Reid and hip-hop pioneer DJ Maseo, and has opened for Coldplay and Skrillex.
Matthew's high-energy sousaphone style is perfectly suited for a brass band performance, especially when some light choreography is called for. He's comfortable playing a variety of genres, from a traditional marching band to an electronic rock band, whether that means sight reading charts, memorizing parts or improvising a walking bass line.
