Having been hailed by the New York Music Daily for his "carefree" and "soulful" solo playing, Kevin A. Virgilio enjoys an international career as a trombonist to growing acclaim. After his solo debut in 2002, Mr. Virgilio has given performances in many of the world's famous venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Lincoln Center Bandshell, David Geffen Hall, and others. Mr. Virgilio continues to enjoy an eclectic performance and recording career that runs the gamut of musical styles and repertoire. A founding member of the Hot Shim Sham Orchestra, Mr. Virgilio was quickly recognized as a champion of the music of Tommy Dorsey, giving interpretations of his extensive solo catalogue "both respectful of the swing era style and of modern performance standards."
Equally at home in classrooms, Mr. Virgilio is highly sought as an educator, and has been an active proponent in establishing and expanding music programs in many of New York City's public schools since 2009. Having single-handedly revived and created instrumental and choral programs for elementary and middle school students in Queens, Brooklyn, lower Manhattan, and his home borough of the Bronx, he continues to compose and arrange music to be performed by school-aged musicians following the successful premier his first one-act musical, "New Pork City: A Tale of Three Piggies." Mr. Virgilio is a graduate of both the Hartt School at the University of Hartford and of Mannes College of Music at the New School University. He currently lives in the Bronx with his wife Jenna, and his cat Daisy.
